Red Engine Jeans…..the perfect hand finished cut…

03.23.2010

If you were not yet aware that we stock the authentic vintage inspired American Jean label Red Engine, then you may be missing out on the perfect fit for your shape. Designed and made in Los Angeles California, each pair are detailed and finished entirely by hand.

Former Vice President at Guess? Jim and his wife Kirsten (former designer of Guess?) set up the label in 1999. It was out of their garage that red engine emerged and still persist today, constantly searching for the best quality, softest denim and superior fit and wash.

Importing their denims from Europe and Japan and producing locally mean they are personally involved in all aspects from design to post-production.

THE STYLES WE STOCK AND YOU COULD OWN

The Fabrics We Use…

03.23.2010

The fact that we source our fabrics from the best mills in Europe and Japan means that quality, exclusivity and luxuriousness are all guaranteed.

Within our current Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection

We have used Silk, Cashmere and Napa Leather…..

Lamb Skin Italian Leather

Here is a bit more about each fabric and yarn…to let you in on our trade secrets..

Lamb (napa) Skin Leather

Our Sheath Leather Jackets have been made out of these soft, supple skins. Did you know that these are the same skins from the same mill that supplied Italian designer of the moment Rick Owens? Did you know that leather this light, fine and resistant has strength and flexibility yet also gives and the most remarkable drape?

If each jacket were the same it would be a miracle, as hides are unlike fabrics, these come with their own unique shapes and marks as climate and living has already shaped these materials before we cut them into our clever pattern shapes. The headache was they re-working all the pattern pieces to fit onto the skin.

100% Pure Silk

Silk is a natural smooth, fine and long filament fibre from a caterpillar. Once spun and woven, it is turned into a lustrous, soft, dry handle fabric. Brilliant to wear as it has good elastic recovery and drapes exceptionally well….as seen in our Tangent Dress.

100% Silk Tangent Dress

Due to the sheer nature of many of the silks we use at taylor, it  makes them fabulous trans-seasonal layering pieces. By simply adjusting your under layers you are able to transform a summer dress into a snug winter outfit.

100% Cashmere

Cashmere is the finest, softest and most sensual of all yarns, from the Kashmir goat.

This yarn is intelligent as it reacts to your body temperature and though it is so light, it holds in more warmth than is needed. As well as being comfortable to wear when the weather is cooler. This fibre is highly sought after and rare, due to it’s strength and ability to create movement and drape.

Our Enclosure Coat is made out of 100% Cashmere and It simply needs to be tried on for the feeling of pure cashmere against the body…they are in store as we speak…

To see and feel these amazing fabrics and fibers for yourself, pop into store and treat your senses.

Assistant Designer Ana Vemic’s Fave Pieces and more……

03.13.2010

As previously promised we have now questioned our Assistant Designer Ana Vemic on a range of topics: her final year collection, taylor’s new Autumn/Winter 2010/11 Collection and everything in between…

1. We know that you studied Fashion Design at AUT. What did you enjoy or see as most beneficial about the degree you successfully completed?

The degree from start to finish was extremely valuable. We learnt and practised the whole process of design, including coming up with initial ideas, theory and research, working on concept development, pattern making, garment construction and finally presenting and selling our vision/idea. We also had the opportunity to meet and work alongside industry people. Our tutors all came from very successful backgrounds in fashion, which made them both great teachers and role models.

2. Do you mind giving us a little bit more insight into your final year collection? Inspiration? Fabrication?

My collection is a mutation of contrasting and opposing ideas. It is dark with hybrid layers, yet effortless and relaxed. The clothes have an ease about them. Pattern and design are embedded into the garments, however on the exterior they are clean, simple and uncomplicated. Silhouette is key. I used a combination of man made and natural fibres with contrasting finishes and textures. Luxurious Italian cashmere was mixed with high-tech nylon, and leather was also an important element in bringing everything together.

3. I may have heard through the grapevine that we actually incorporated one of the pieces from your final collection into our own. Which piece is it and why do taylor ladies just HAVE to have it?

Yes, we have made one of my cardigans for this winter collection at taylor, which I am thrilled about! It is called the Zen Cardi and is a great piece to have as it can be layered and worn with almost anything. They have been produced in two fabrics; a beautiful, fine cashmere and a more dressy version in an 88% cotton and 12% metal fabric.

Our ladies will LOVE the soft drape at the back and casual elegance the piece offers. It’s available in six luscious winter colours, so they will be spoilt for choice!

4. Aside from your creation, which are your fave three pieces from our new season and why?

The Circle Dress:
I bought mine a few days ago and can’t seem to keep it off! It is an ingenious garment that can be worn at least six different ways, for completely different looks- we seem to come up with a new one every day! It is a piece that can work winter through to summer as you can choose to wear it with or without sleeves. Looks great with flat boots or towering heels. I want one in every colour!

The circle dress as a caped tunic

The Mantel Cape:
These are available in three colourways, my fave being the black cashmere. They have a beautiful voluminous shape with a draped neckpiece which can be worn a couple of different ways. This is an elegant, timeless piece which will look great for many winter’s to come.

The Dohji Pants:
This winter’s statement pants!

5. How are you finding the experience of coming straight from university and working in a design workroom for one of New Zealand’s leading, longest standing designers?

I am absolutely loving working at taylor. It is such a great experience. I am putting the things I learned at university into practice and am learning something new on a daily basis. Plus I get to work with amazing, talented people everyday!

So there you have it. Next time you’re in-store, be sure to enquire about the Zen Cardi and keep an eye out for one of our few blondes we have at taylor- she may be helping you to style your next outfit with her natural ability and fabulous stylish design!

New Autumn Collection in store now

03.02.2010

Our new Autumn Collection is now instore

Forever the way of the world is reflected  through the artistic and creative industries. In these days where no-one is really able to judge the real value of things anymore. Frightening quantities are churned out non-stop worldwide, mass produced “luxury” with armies of clones and imitations.

Where has the magic gone?

It is necessary to rediscover value and quality, encourage innovation and consider fashion an art form that lasts past one season. The future for this change starts now so let us take you on a journey into the wintery worlds of enveloping protection.

Winter 2010 at taylor we are delving into creative play with static geometry and architectural shapes that fold and drape against the body creating freeform sculptures. The allure of asymmetric lines, experimental cuts and how the curves interact with the body, lead to a season of experimentation and magic. Garments that can be transformed from a dress to a top, from casual daywear to elegant chic by using a different sleeve, armhole or angle. This season we want to put the fun back into fashion.

This winter’s gleaming, soft falling; fine silks and translucent cashmere fabrics are balanced against structured and sculptured suits in textural Italian wools. This season teeters on the perfect balance of hard and soft, overlaying textural transparencies against soft leathers. Contrasts are paramount, Textures, colours, lustre and mixing the masculine and sculptured features with soft feminine elements. We play particular attention to volumes teamed back to sharp tailored precision.

There is a compulsory choice of leather or suede not only in our amazing footwear but Chic jackets, vests and belts. Add a dark side to your look with chain belts, incredible supple Italian lambskin leather jackets, worn over volumes of soft draped silks and cashmere knits. This winter the shoulders are wider on slender jackets and masculine waistcoats, to make the wearer feel stronger,

This season‘s must haves are

Enveloping dresses that wrap circular shapes around the body and defend the body worn with sharp tailored jackets or waistcoats and ankle boots.

Japanese style volumes like Kimono styled sleeves

Soft cut pants that skinny over the calf and ankle worn with crisp shirts and belted to accentuate the waist.

Knee revealing skirts in either pencil or soft bubble shapes worn with thick coloured knit tights, and soft leather boots.

High waisted tailored trousers worn with maxi cardis over circular, egg shaped tops and tunics.

Masculine edged jackets, with square shoulders and corseted waists.

Cashmere and leather

The Shirt

Voluminous Coats and capes that wrap the body in Origami like sheaths. Our taylor 100% Italian Cashmere Enclosure Coat is heavenly in it’s shape and feel.

To compliment the taylor looks this season we are excited to announce an amazing Avant Guard knitwear range – Kourbela from Athens, Cable knitwear from Melbourne and we continue with our new casual approach. We will be expanding the styles in our favoured Red Engine Jeans to some with amazing 360 degree stretch and accompanying them with great range of organic cotton pieces from Skinny Nelson and friends from Australia. We hope you enjoy these amazing pieces that fit our stylishly casual aesthetic and are really well price pointed.

We look forward to seeing you in “taylor” soon to prepare for the upcoming wintery world or view our full collection on line at www.taylorboutique.co.nz
