For you Literature Fans
A classic novel “Lord of Flies” by William Golding is taken to a new level with these amazingly contemporary, detailed and eery looking illustrations by artist Sam Weber.
Being a fan of the novel itself….Weber thought this a dream job!
We think he did a dreamy job!
The Essential Rain-Coat…
With the rain pitter pattering about, we thought it would be most appropriate to introduce our essential coat & more at taylor.
Rain no longer means washed out and drab…..not with the 100 % reversible Pyramid Raincoat… This versatile raincoat is black on one side for saving your ‘I’m going out tonight” outfit and either beige or molecule grey on the other for those days when you just do not want to be adding to the darkness of a rainy day. Yes these are the same coat in one!
With more than one set of holes for the belt and elegant full volume sleeves, you are able to play around with this light weight Coat to suit your under layers and mood! It can be dressy enough for a formal event or casual enough to work on a sporting sideline. The fabulous Italian fabric means this piece is light enough to roll up in a suitcase without taking up much room and pop out unwrinkled at the other end.
For a shorter length casual raincoat, we have the Repel Jacket on offer…this jacket can be worn open & draped casually to the sides or buttoned all the way up & belted for when the rain attacks… the fabulous collar plays off against the double buttoning front to give shape to the wearer. This fabulous memory yarn fabric from japan has a sophisticated edge, that means this jacket will become a fast favourite in your wardrobe.
We look forward to being able to show you these great winter essentials that will make a stylish alternative for you on those wet winter days.

Wellington Windows…
The Wellington Team get creative with outfit combinations, styling and displays. For those of you who have not yet been able to visit this gorgeous new space, we thought it only fair to let you in on the fun with a few pics…
Have you felt the caressive softness of our Sheath Leather Jacket yet? This is the same leather used by Rick Owens in his latest International Collection….
The Merino Pod dress can be worn at full floor length or cleverly buttoned up to create a 3/4 length different look.

The Crisp white hub shirt is one of our key looks this season. With a thick white band worn around the waist it accentuates the waist and creates the hourglass silhouette. Replace the white band with a belt as styled on the mannequin & team it back with our funky wool peg pants. Also there are some great Metalicus layering tops that just add those cheaper priced alternatives to your outfit.
Inspiration Station…
A bit of a treat for the creative minds…
Nina Saunders a Denmark designer (who collaborated with our British shoe designer Tracey Neuls in an in store display), has out done herself with this piece of furniture shown as part of Milan Furniture Show.
She has taken traditional furniture and morphed their shapes into unconventional, impractical pieces of art work.
If you were planning on hosting a tea party at some stage soon…imagine setting the table with these Florentine Renaissance inspired house settings…
Or serving nibbles and drinks on this plexiglass low lying sculptural table by Emmanuel Babled..
Oh what a party that would be!! Dreams are free!!
Enjoy your day from the taylor team!

As if her shoe designs were not testament enough, London shoe designer Tracey Neuls has pushed the bar higher and formed an in-store installation with British fabric design company Sanderson and Danish artist Nina Saunders, to mark Sanderson’s 150 years of business.
These are a few pics of the in store display..wish we were there so we could pop into store and check it out…
Basically all you need…
We seem to be so all consumed and focused on the glamorous outer layers that we wear…..
and the under layers (which are closest to our skin) seem to take a back seat.
Without these specially designed sleek, smooth, holding and flattering basic essentials our look would not be half as successful as what it could be..
So we dedicated this blog to our :
TAYLOR BASICS
We will begin with the shoe string slip, the perfect round neck both back and front. In black and white these slips are one size, but quite unique in the fact that they hold and smooth the body…
The taylor tank slipsare available in black and white and are made out of the same 93% meryl 7% elastane as the shoe string slips. They are made in one size and have thicker straps for a more casual look and feel.
Taylor cami’sare a shorter version of our shoe string sips and equally as amazing on the body. Black, white and cino are in store…
Taylor leggingsin thunder, white and black are the perfect opaque under layer with an elasticized waistband that will not create the muffin effect! Made from 96% viscose and 4% lycra from Italy they are heavenly against bare legs.
These super sheer taylor essential tanksare made out of an Italian viscose silk and are not only great for layering, but brilliant as a smart causal top with jeans teamed with a contrasting taylor cami underneath.
For a warmer layer in this coming winter season our merino suture scoops in black and white are a nice option. This super scoop neckline basic is also available in a 100% sheer cotton in argon, fog, white and black.
If you cannot find what you are after from this extensive range…we do have our new shipment of metalicus……with many colours and styles to choose from…
METALICUS BASICS
Possibly not for long though……if you’re thinking basics…..look no further….. taylor has you covered!

We have received some wonderful feedback lately, and this left us feeling a warm fuzzy feeling of gratefulness that we serve ladies who:
1. Care enough to take the time to give us feedback
2. Pop into store simply to say hi, touch base and chat
3. Trust us enough to allow us to style them and suggest new shapes, colours and looks to play around with
Here is what you have said to us lately, and we thank you so much for taking the time to tell us.
I just wanted to take this opportunity to compliment you on the standard of service, staff and clothing you have.
Yesterday was my first trip into Taylor and Jade was fantastic. She was honest about what would best suit my ‘not size 12′ figure. What I was expecting to be an experience of shopping where I came home disappointed…well, instead I was thrilled to be styled and I love the outfit that I chose.
Victoria – I have to say the two dresses I have just bought are amazing.
I have felt so special in both, particularly the “slippery” one!! It is absolutely fantastic – I don’t know that I have ever felt quite as amazing in anything before!!(I hope you know the one I mean!)
This one particularly has received lovely flattering comments from everyone I met.
The Silky georgette one will too – I just didn’t meet so many people the day I wore it!!
So thank you and well done!! I really look forward to shopping at Taylor more and more….
Yes I do also love a bargain – (so I will add my txt!!) always interested in something that is a little different..edgy… out there –
Spring Clean Your Wardrobe and get a FREE Wardrobe Styling Session at taylor.
As the days are getting longer, the time has come to do a quick clean out of your wardrobe. This will make you feel fresh and new!
Go through the below process, print it out and present it with your new wardrobe list at one of our boutiques and our taylor girls will give you A FREE 1 HOUR WARDROBE STYLING SESSION to ensure your wardrobe is working the best for you.
1) Go right through every garment in your wardrobe from start to finish. TRY ON EVERY GARMENT- do not leave one garment untouched.
- Take out anything you have not worn in 2 years. Separate these into ones you haven’t worn in the last 12 months and put these on your bed. Remove the rest and put on the floor and do not put anything back. Watch out for that analysis by sentimental value…. these pieces need to go into your children’s dress up box!
- Take out anything that never fitted very well, or you need to lose that little bit extra weight before you can wear it again. Put these on a chair. Look at these again after going through the wardrobe, and ask yourself… “Am I in a weight loss program? Is this a realistic fact that I will wear this again? Or would I be better taking the recycle value and putting it towards a new purchase that I will wear?”
- Remove anything that looks like it has been through the wash one to many times… or is stained, torn or in need of repair. Is wear starting to show? Decide to repair or depart with these – put the departed on the floor.
- Remove any garments that, when you put them on, never feel right, or you feel you do not look good in. Put these on the floor.
This is the hardest part of the New Look process but you will feel fantastic when you have done this. (We suggest you take these clothes on your floor and/or chair to a recycle boutique or give them to the charity of your choice.)
2) Put the ones you have worn often back in your wardrobe. Go through those on your bed one more time and make sure you have been careful and have a valid reason for keeping them.
3) Optional – Go to The Warehouse or supply shop and purchase new wooden coat hangers for these garments. If you keep them looking nice and take care of them they will last for you.
4) Now make a write down a list of what you have left; for example, 2 jackets, 1 coat, 3 dresses etc..
5) Make sure you still have the basic wardrobe building blocks. Do you have:
- A great Coat and/or Raincoat
- A nicely tailored Jacket or Blazer
- A good flattering Dress or Tunic for day-wear
- At least one flattering pair of Trousers and/or a Skirt
- A good pair of Jeans that are dressy enough to wear out
- A Wrap or Classic Cardigan
- A classic well fitting Shirt
- At least 3-4 daywear Tops
- A Dressy Top for going out
- A gorgeous Evening Outfit that you feel fabulous in
- A warm Merino or other wool Sweater
- Excellent Scarf or long Nnecklace
It is not about having a lot, but having the right pieces to put together to get the right looks. Buy one good quality piece rather than 3 average pieces and over the next year you will enjoy the difference.
6) A quick BODY analysis
Take a look in the mirror and list 3 things you like about your body.
List any parts of your body you want to take attention away from.
7) Now do a quick Lifestyle Analysi, as often our lives changes and our wardrobes have different requirements because of this.
What does your lifestyle involve? Formal work environment, casual weekends, looking after children, activities like going to the gym, coffee with friends, casual work environment, relaxed but smart daywear, dinner out with friends, casual BBQ’s, lunches out with friends, Christmas parties, formal business dinners with husbands or work colleagues???
8 ) Do you have clothes on your wardrobe lists that you feel comfortable wearing for these activities?Write down anything you feel is missing to complete your outfits.
9 ) Pin this list to your wardrobe door. Now, when you get your money back from the recycle clothing shop, treat yourself to something new. Never go shopping without this list… or you will get sidetracked into buying wants rather than needs.
Top tips for buying good building blocks for your wardrobe.
1) The best investment you can make is buying ‘basic’ clothes that can be worn any time of the day or night, and which just need accessories to be dressed either up or down. Accessories are a great way to stand out.
2) Shopping should be seen as an investment; don’t fall into the ‘impulse’ shopping trap. No matter how good a sales assistant says you look, you will look and feel so much better knowing you have a well thought-out purchase. Justify your purchases with a cost per wear… buy a $380 trouser but wear them once a week for a year and it’s $7.80 per wear. Wear those trousers for 2-3 years as they were such great fabric and they cost you $2.44!! You will spend more a day on coffee or lunch!
3) If you are going to buy expensive shoes or handbags then try to avoid buying shoes that reflect current fashion styles as they will date too quickly and go out of fashion before you know it. Buy style rather than fast fashion.
4) Buy your size! Don’t be a ‘vanity’ shopper who needs the size 6. If you buy clothes that are too small you will regret it in the coming weeks if not days, I promise you! Also, as women do not come in off the rack figures or sizes, if you do not get that waist or hem altered to fit on those trousers you will never wear them as much as ones that really fit. A small alteration cost will save you heaps in the long run.
Print this out and present it in-store at taylor PONSONBY, NEWMARKET or WELLINGTON, and you’ll be entitled to a free 1 hour Wardrobe styling session with one of our fabulous stylists.
Red Engine jeans – the why and what behind the denim label
For those of you who have experienced the new Red Engine jeans from Los Angeles, we have been stocking this season, this will come as no surprise.
Their Fit is fabulous, they do not gap at the waist, we have had several customers love them so much they have already come back for a second pair. We have had customers who never wear jeans as they can never find ones to fit… then start wearing these jeans..
Here is what the Red Engine designers say is their point of difference.
Red Engine is similar in approach to Seven for all Mankind – both lines use the highest quality denims and manufacture in Los Angeles. The difference is that Seven has morphed into a lifestyle brand that can be found in every department store in the US. True Religion also manufacture in LA, they are more a “fashion” jean that relies on details (trims, oversized pockets, hardware etc) over fit. True religion is more about “image” and less about fit
Red Engine however is by intention and by design a more basic jean that provides a tight and sexy, totally flattering fit that is totally comfortable at the same time. The beautiful, high quality Italian stretch denims used hold a girl in where she needs a little holding, creating a flattering silhouette at the hip, thigh and backside. There is a bottom lifting effect, and pocket size and placement are set to flatter curves and even create them when you need them. Red Engine use a special ( secret) waistband construction so that gapping will almost never happen. All of these features mean that there is a Red Engine fit that will work perfectly for almost all body types.
The bottom line is Red Engine, Seven and True Religion are all sold side by side in hundreds of stores and what the stores say is:
Women come in asking for True Religion or Seven because they advertise and are better known, but almost everytime the customer will come out of the changeroom and buy the Red Engine jeans. Then they will come back asking for another colour or wash as they haven’t stopped wearing the Red Engine’s they bought last time.
Come in and try a pair… every one needs a great jean in their wardrobe and finding a good one is the biggest challenge.
