We are looking for an experienced fashion retail manager to take ownership of our beautiful Wellington store.

If this opportunity sounds like you.. please send your CV and a current photo to vicki@taylorboutique.co.nz

Those who have had me look after you in the shop, you understand  that my staff and I just really want to help make you look better, and feel better about what you wear. We want to give you confidence to know the way to put it together so it suits your figure and lifestyle. With proportion and body shapes always being so different, women do not have the luxury of one shape/ silhouette fits all. My taylor stylists and myself spend hours playing with clothes, on ourselves and other customers… we have seen a raft of different figure shapes and work hard to make the best of each person.

I just thought I would share some feedback I have received lately.

Dear Vicki,

I just wanted to say a further quick thank you!  I love the pants – the fit and the cut, and the fabric is a new one for me as well – love, love, love them!  They’re so flattering – it’s like magic!  The tunic is gorgeous also and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it and your advice and time.  I feel like a new person (or at least like my pre-child bearing person )

I love my Taylor collection.  Your clothing taught me to spend more and buy what I absolutely coveted and loved.  It’s meant a classic, enduring wardrobe which I continue to love year after year – and it’s always exciting adding a new piece (or rather pieces because generally I never just buy one thing – I usually end up going back for more!).  I cut my ‘grown-up’ wardrobe teeth at Taylor and I continue to learn so much about myself, my shape and being open-minded. If I’d walked into store and seen the integral pant, I have to confess I would have just gone past them, never imagining they’d work for me – and I’d have missed out on an awesome pant!
If I can encourage another woman to do the same – she’ll only benefit.

Acquire Piece with an Integral Pant in vapour.

Make sure you take time to let us help you when you are next in-store…. we are not trying to hard sell to you.. we are trying to make you look the best we possibly can. We may push your boundaries on what you expect, but we will always come back to what suits you best.

The Enclose collection.

Friday 2nd September  2011 saw us show a snapshot of our merino wool styles for Winter 2012 at the “The Merino Show” at NZFW.

This range has a glacial feel and aims to encapsulate the silhouette with Merino textures which interplay with translucent volumes. Enclosed opaque forms wrap across the body and question proportion. Overlapping, tucked and folded textures wrap and drape against sharp cut edges creating a unique and personalised look. Textures and colours peep through the silhouette creating intrigue and obscuring the initial visual outline.

A great day and many thanks my taylor team, all the many helpers on the day! Special thanks to ClairObscur for a great video and to our sponsors for the day.

summer 2011/12

Taylor’s inspiration this season draws on the slow, dynamic and eery movements of dense fog lifting from low-lying land.  Swirling as it rises, it creates a brightness, lightness and gives way to beautiful clarity.  Garments too, dance, drape and fall until they fully reveal themselves.

Mimicking the low light and colours of the land at dusk, the colour palette for spring/summer is based on neutral, muted tones.  Mid-season, the vapour-grey tones ascend to reveal hints of persimmon red, emerald green and strong mineral blues.

Silk georgettes create an effect similar to fog; billowing, floating and sweeping around the wearer. This and other natural fibres such as silk tulle and natural linen are used throughout the collection, giving the garments longevity and a luxurious feel.

The fabrics’ natural textures are heightened in the way they are used to construct each piece; the linen’s rougher surface is exaggerated through ruffles and rouches, and the silk’s soft, flowing nature is given room to move through length, volume and draping.

This season’s pieces further show the pod and ovoidal shapes that Taylor has become synonymous with.

see you in store soon

This week the chill wind and lower temperatures have sent me running for my Wool Pants, Merino Tops and Boots.

I am really enjoying getting back into wearing my Pleated Ardent Pants in our gorgeous soft Italian wool/Lycra blend.

Pleated Ardent Pants and Two Toned Classify Top

These pants have a very contemporary  and flattering shape with lots of pleats coming off the waist band so they sit softly draped over my hips and thighs and then they slim down at my knees giving me a slim leg. We have a centre back zip, so the pleats can fall straight and not be pulled in the front with the weight of a centre front fly. The fit like a trouser over your bottom, hips and thighs but still a slim leg so you can wear shorter length tops but still have a flattering silhouette.
Online shop: Ardent pants

I am teaming these with a couple of merino tops:

The Two toned Classify  merino top in Shale and Black as above – like the Classify dress only the top… and my Black Circle Jacket for when I have a meeting to attend.

I can dress this up with NUNC ankle boots (online shop here) or for the office I am loving wearing these pants with my Andrew MacDonald Fold Over Brogues: grab them from our online shop here!

Two Toned Classify Tops

OR

I am teaming these Pleated pants with my cream taylor Merino Essential Top and I am loving my Merino wool Divided Sweater with this shape of pant.

The sweater looks great worn long to the front for the day for a more relaxed feel, then when heading out for a drink after work I turn the divided sweater around and it gives me a shorter front top.

These pieces are so versatile as they not only look good with the Pleated trousers but you can easily layer it over our Camber tunics and Venetian pants.

What I am wearing this week……

As the Winter chills are arriving this week I am loving two new favourites in my wardrobe.

My new Italian wool Lace Jersey Dress. This is a scooped neck jersey that reaches to my calf…. I can escape and snuggle inside – nothing clings or touches yet I get compliments every time I wear it, so I must look OK as well.

This looks amazing over a my Ivory Merino Essential top and slip… but works just as well over my Skinny Integral pants and boots. I wrap my Loop Scarf around my neck… and head out.

Wool Lace Ideal Jersey Dress

I am also Enjoying my Merino Gathered Encounter Dress.

Again this is easy to pull on with tights and boots, warm with long slim sleeves, a softly falling higher neckline to keep the chills out. The gathers are cleverly placed so they do not go around the body.. instead the fall away on the sides and finish in an asymmetrical hem…but the gathers do hide those little lumps and bumps.

I have grabbed this from the wardrobe twice this week . Firstly  to wear out to the Comedy festival with the girls from work with a high ankle boot and Coat…. and then heading over to a friends for dinner I wore it with Flat boots and my Cable merino Wrap.

Merino Gathered Encounter Dress

The photos on the mannequin do not do this justice.. so make sure you pop in and try one on.

Make Sure you finish it with our Great Looped Scarf.. it is a winter necklace.

It has been so nice this week to receive some really lovely comments about us and our staff. I thank you so much for taking the time to write to us and tell us… it means so much!

Firstly there was this one:

Hi,  just thought I would send you a quick reply – went into the Newmarket shop and tried on the black and white dress and it wasn’t quite right; but I bought the gorgeous black dress with the long black pleated skirt and a pleated grey shift to go underneath.  Your sales assistant was fantastic –  she wasn’t pushy, wasn’t in our face or over the top – just offered good, constructive advice.  She also didn’t try to make mind- numbing small talk – she was just right!  Please pass on my congratulations to her.   My sister-in-law (who owns a menswear store in High Street)  and I went to every shop in Teed St, and yours was by far the best on every level.

Keep it up – your store was also the only one that I could have bought lots of items, not just one or two, you have a great Winter range.  When I win Lotto I will be back with a trailer!

Then over the weekend.. we received this comment:

Lovely morning shopping @ Taylor, Jervois Road = Encounter Dress; Classify Two Toned Merino and Long, Assymetrical Cable Cardigan; all looked stunning. Very excited and thanks to Joe and other assistant. Just need a little colder weather, but sunny days! Thank you Vicki.

I really do thank  you for taking the time to write to me with your thoughts!

Pleated Excursion Dress

Having had a stunning summer, it is always challenging to get back into work mode, look great and survive the February heat and humidity.

Here a couple of easy wearable outfits that I have been thrashing over the last couple of weeks and while struggling to keep concentration levels in our hot office:

Roseate Tunic $379

The Roseate tunic – This has always been an easy to wear piece that has elegance and simplicity. I always wear the white one over a black taylor slip… as then you see the top layer floating over my silhouette, teamed with a simple black court shoe… my outfit is easy and cool on these stifling days.

taylor Liberty Pant suit

The Liberty Pant suit…. a single layer of soft silk that bounces off my body, no need for slips underneath and as only the shoulders touch…. it is fabulous to wear on these hot days. It looks like a maxi dress…. but has the practicality of pants so I can run up stairs and move quickly without wondering where my skirt is and who is seeing what! I have teamed these for day with a flat brogue shoe, as it makes it feel more down to earth… but before Christmas this was fun to wear with big heels to stylish events. With floor grazing hemlines coming in for winter I can’t wait to layer a simple merino underneath and wear this fabulous piece through the winter.

Fog Sphere Dress

The sphere dress… Again this easy silk draped piece flows around the body without touching, It hints at your silhouette without being revealing. No belts needed just a simple long necklace and great shoes. The cape style back creates a fluid movement when you walk which keeps you cool, and for a great every day alternative try our  jacquard mesh cotton knit.

Look stylish and feel great in this fabulous summer weather.
