Blown fabric

There are just some amazingly clever people in the world…..

Blown Fabric” is collection of lamps designed by Nendo. They used the material Smash, a long-fibre non-woven polyester, which you can shape in almost any form when heated. The production technique is very similar to blown glass. That’s why they’ve used LED bulbs to make sure that the lampshades don’t collapse.
This will be on display during the Milan furniture fair at the Tokyo Fiber ‘09 Senseware exhibition.

Grey Stripe Pleated Central Dress under a wool Mesh gillet

Grey Stripe Pleated Centrale Dress under a wool Mesh gillet

This week I have asked Shona – our Retail manager and styling genius in our Newmarket store for her favourite pieces from this season…

She didn’t hesitate to say My favourite piece is the Pleated Centrale dress …. (shown in grey stripe here but Shona has the black one) This is a long Black pleated tube dress, in an amazing Italian pleated fabric has subtle circles pleated into the fabric. She loves  this piece for “its versatility.”  The dress can easily transform a pair of pants from day to night and “when turned upside down the dress becomes a top” with a fabulous pleated neckline and looks great worn with her New Peg Pants and an O Belt. I love the way the belt gives me a line that keeps the proportions of the outfit correct.”

Shona is loving her New Peg Pants… the shape allows them to fit like a man style trouser through the waist and thigh area but then taper in at the bottom to give you a fabulous long leg look. We have carefully positioned the pleats on these trousers so they flatter you without adding bulk and extra fabric. She says they are extremely comfortable and stylish and I just wear, wear and wear them. They fit beautifully and the lightweight Italian wool keeps them warm and I can tuck the skinny part into my boots or wear them with a flat shoe. I can see they will last a really long time.”

The Crusade jacket has topped off Shona’s winter wardrobe as she says she “loves the cropt jacket look”  It can transform and suit so many figure shapes and she loves it with “longer layers extending out from underneath the jacket as this adds extra texture or colour to her outfits.”

So now when you see Shona popping out in Newmarket for a coffee, you will know she will probably have one or all of these pieces on.

Fragment Tunic with Conform Boots

Fragment Tunic with Conform Boots

I’m loving my Tracey Neuls Conform Boots.

In fact, I have to admit I have now worn them 4 days in a row! I wore them to work with my Mantis Dress and grey merino leggings, over the weekend I had my jeans tucked into them, for dinner out I wore my boots with the skinny Linear pants and I now have my merino Echelon dress with grey tights on and my boots!

These boots just feel right! They have the perfect amount of scrunch in the leg and a heel that makes them dressy or casual and then they have the perfect amount of intrigue with the leather wrapping around the black wooden heel and finishing with a petite button.

Thank you Tracey for making these most wearable and stylish boots!

The comfort factor comes from the incredibly soft and supple leather upper, that has been moulded not seamed into shape. This softness means you can just pull them on like a sock… no zips.. no struggling they just slide on without being too baggy either. This softeness also adds to my comfort and means I haven’t had those sore ankles when I first wore them. The heel is the perfect height so I look like I am wearing heels yet my feet do not complain… and in retail and on my feet all day, this is the sign of a fabulous, well balanced shoe.

I know people question the price of boots but when you get a good pair… nothing else in your wardrobe will work like them. The longevity you will get from a great pair of boots should be 3-5 years and this will offset the investment. My last pair of Tracey’s boots I got the winter before we opened our Newmarket boutique. That was 5 years ago and they still look great because Tracey’s shoes are about style not fashion trend. When you wear them 2-3 times a week for 5 years… well, it works out my last pair cost me approx $2 a wear! So they are really worth it.

For an essential addition to your winter wardrobe, come in and try these boots on…. then you will know what I am talking about.

These boots are now only available from our Newmarket Boutique.

Seamed Insider Coat

Seamed Insider Coat

The weather is freezing and what better way to stay warm but to wrap up in an amazing winter coat.

Now a winter coat is a big investment and something that should live for years and years in your wardrobe. It should have enough individuality to classify it as “stylish” and so it will become a loved member of your wardrobe, but still have timeless proportions and lines so it doesn’t date with fashion.

The latest reviews of next winter’s fashion runway shows are all talking about “The Beige Coat” refer to Dries Van Noten Fall 2009 fashion show to see the talked about version of this latest Coat that he opened and closed his show with.

Now a black coat has long been an essential in your wardrobe, but sometimes we need to not wear “all black” hence the addition of “The Beige Coat” as a new classic staple for our wardrobes. This beige colour works amazingly with Black, Navy and Dk Chocolate Brown and our Essential Charcoals. We love this new colour, but as a coat is such a timeless investment we also do run our Insider Coat in a Black Italian wool cashmere and a Dark Steel Grey.

The Fabrication: A fabulous Italian Virgin wool and Cashmere blend is unbeatable for a wintercoat especially in New Zealand where our winters… well some in the past …. haven’t been as cold as those in Europe… the cashmere is a super fine and soft wool fibre which enables a lightness, fineness and yet warmth, the Virgin wool content gives it strength and durability and this season we have 2 amazing Italian fabrics which also have the added luxury of angora in them to add that delightful drape to the fabric and an unbelievable soft handle.

Enjoy these cold months wrapped in a beautiful Seamed Insider Coat.

If you only get one new garment this season, this has to be one!

The Venetian Cowl.

It is an absolute favourite with all the taylor staff for its easy wearability, functionality and warmth. The pleated neckline gives it the detail and the shape is so unique. Its versatility can not be questioned as the photos show you there are so many ways to wear this piece ….yes this is all one garment.

The Venetian Cowl is made in 100% New Zealand Designer Merino… a heavier jersey construction of the knitted fabric allows this piece to be the one you snuggle up next to the fire with your favourite jeans, yet also pull out to wear over that elegant dress for those chilly winter occasions. It also has the amazing durability of the super fine merino yarn and can be hand washed.

This favourite item is now also available in 3 colours, the ever essential Black, a dark Steely blue grey and as photographed in a dark Moss green.
