Made from sustainable porcelain, the squared-off rings and three-sided amulets are inspired by an ancient belief that certain shapes hold mysterious powers. To complement the raw texture of the clay. Elguero — a Parsons professor — finishes each piece with a metallic or smooth glaze.

The cubed rings’ asymmetric details (one-sided grooves, rounded divots, sloping edges) keep them from being too calculated. Our favorite piece, The texture ring – a ring that looks like a gold-rimmed bouquet of mini Q-tips (pictured), completely breaks the formula.

Knitwear – by taylor, in store this weekend!

With the success of our last by taylor knitwear  collection, we have 5 new Summer styles to introduce to your taylor wardrobes. Made up of the most delicate Tencel/Linen Knits and beautifully gauzy Cotton/Linen knits, we are having trouble deciding which is our favourite. Each piece is a must have for the warm summer months, subtle details, clever design, they are practical and well suited for everybody.

If you have been in-store these last couple of days you may have spied a couple of pieces of our new knitwear already, the Envelope Cardi being one of them. This is your long length cardi for the summer time, but it is much more than that. With buttons all down the front, you can transform this one into different looks. The more you play with it, the more looks you will find with this one. If you loved our Ribbed Venetian Cowl in Merino last winter (and all the many ways you can wear it), then this one is definitely worth a try.

The Finch Cardi is another versatile style. It is a cropped style that you can have as a caped cardi cover-up or as an alternative to a summer wrap. Of course we have added our unique taylor twist with a striking contrast stitch along the back. You have the option to wear this one upside down, and wrapped up as it comes with it’s own matching yarn covered kilt pin.

If you loved our Merino Unite Sweater from winter, then this one is like her little sister. The gauziness of this Cotton/Linen sweater makes it easy to wear and a cool choice to wear on it’s own with jeans or add a sort of casualness to the Silk Graduate Pants. Or you can also layer it up with a Definition or Confine Shirt and Integral Pants.

How beautiful and super soft these mesh Tencel/Linen knits are -you will have to feel for yourself. The Slash Cardi is such a lovely floaty piece of knitwear that drapes in a such an interesting way and you can wrap it up with the kilt pin also. Another option of  how to wear this one is  one upside down so you  have the centre split creating a dramatic kind of tail in the back.

Our Slouch Sweater is also a piece made up the super soft Tencel/Linen yarn. It’s basically a gorgeous knitted summer tee and I just love the sheerness of this one, making it an ideal piece to layer up and have some fun with.  This one is a chic option to wear casual again, or pair with feminine maxi lengths like our Float Skirt.

As usual, on a mannequin or on a hanger really does not do these pieces any justice. If we have intrigued you with the many ways that you can wear these pieces, then you really must try for yourself.

Hub Jacket in Persimmon, Mineral, Graphite and Emerald

A versatile piece to add to your new season wardrobe, it can be worn underneath structured jackets to add a punch of colour, while we’re still dressing for spring.  Over summer wear this piece as a jacket layer for a little bit of coverage and to enhance and compliment the bright or neutral pieces underneath.

Now if you need any more convincing already to come and try this one, we have yet to mention the many ways you can wear it… let me show you the ways with the pieces that I would layer up with…

Mineral Hub Jacket, Charlotte Tank and Cuffed Limans

Worn very simply, the Hub Jacket is worn open, you don’t necessarily have to button this one right up. This is an option if you are just after a piece to cover up over summer tanks or over summer dress- a formal alternative to a knitted cardigan.

Emerald Hub Jacket over Parachute Shirt and Graduate Pants

Wear it closed by buttoning up through the front or by using the waist belt. Wear as another shirt layer or as a kimono style layer (as pictured above). Worn this way will show off your waist in a really beautifully feminine way without looking traditionally pretty.

Persimmon Hub Jacket over Undulate Top and Estimate Shorts

Another way of wearing the Hub Jacket is by buttoning one side to create a cowled neckline. If you don not want to cover up too much of what you’re wearing underneath, this look is a good option. This is also a way to wear under a tailored jacket to add an interesting dimension.

Graphite Hub Jacket with Flote Shirt, O-Belt and Divided Limans

Believe it or not, this is the Hub Jacket worn upside down. Worn this way, it is now a cropped style jacket. I just love how it falls when worn this way, it compliments the Flote Shirt beautifully. This makes a unique yet smart tuxedo look, especially great if you’re wanting a way to amp up your look for work.

Parachute Shirt in Check with Estimate Shorts

Here are some great looks created with our Parachute Shirt. Layer this beautiful silk piece for spring with different jackets to get different looks.  Dressed up for an evening out, a more edited look for work or try for a relaxed and soft flowing yet summery weekend look.

The oversized cut makes it perfect to wear with a skinny pant, the hem length is long enough to cover and makes it a flattering choice for those dressing to the shape of an “upside down triangle”. By keeping fullness and volume on top and skinny in the legs will flatter and lengthen the look of your legs (and we never get sick of hearing that our Venetian and Integral pants will do just that to your legs!)

Nikki’s Knitwear is just so amazing, you really do have to see it up close to realise how much detail is in these stunning hand-knitted pieces.

Nikki Gabriel originates from Melbourne but now resides in Napier, New Zealand. From there,  she sources and creates new textures and knit structures and with a small collection of hardworking knitters to help her knit, she hand crafts her range.

This summer’s range, the yarns are a Cotton/Linen blend, making it the perfect summer weight for knitwear, These amazing pieces stand alone and will also work fabulously back with your new season taylor pieces you may already have or have your eye on…

Tulip Lace Top

The Tulip Lace Top is a wonderful wardrobe asset. It can be worn quite practically day to day with a great pleat front trouser or pair of jeans and ankle boots… yet it would look stunning worn to a black tie event under a man’s style tailored suit jacket like out Alias Jacket and a soft Palazzo Pant – team it with sky scraper heels and you could go anywhere. For those that cannot get enough of our beautiful drapey pieces, we have re-invented the gorgeous Experience Dress again. This summer we have cut this dress in a Cupro fabric. For those that know nothing of the fiber, it’s  a fabric that feels beautiful to wear, it drapes like a dream and breathes like a cotton making it perfect for summer.

You must try this one on the body the hanger really does this one no justice! It’s the go-to piece for something a little bit sexy and special and looks great on ladies of all ages. Consider this your taylor alternative to a cocktail dress. Tucked Shell Top in Emerald, Mineral, Persimmon, Honeycombe, White and Print

We all know that colour is not always the easiest to wear…why do you think that black is always our best seller at taylor? We sometimes have this stigma that if you are dressed head-to-toe in colour, you will be the end up being the centre of attention. As Kiwis, we do not always want to be the centre of attention! For Summer this “colour blocking”  trend we have all adopted from all the international fashion houses is just going to be huge, even if you do not heavily follow the current trends it’s undeniable.

This is where just a splash of colour is a good way to meet the the trend half way and also a good way to introduce our current wardrobes to colour which will take us right through to high summer.

Generale Trench over White Confine Shirt, Emerald Tucked Shell Top and Black Palazzo Pants

The Tucked Shell Top is a really great piece to ready you for Summer. It can easily be layered with a long sleeve underneath for those that are still feeling that chill, or simply with a camisole and under a cardigan. The simple shape and always flattering cowl neck, makes it a top which is extremely easy to wear.

The  look pictured above is a  chic work or daytime look, the bright colour has been paired with those lovely neutrals to make it everyday yet it has that boldness which makes a quite the statement. Of course, you can always pair it back with denim on the weekend or even a pair of the Assess or Estimate Shorts without feeling too dressed up.

Pod Dress with Lava O-Belt

When wanting to wear colour, don’t forget accesories! Our O-Belt in our new season colours is always a great way to break up a lot of one  neutral colour such as our Flote Shirt, and also stripes like our Pod Dress in the Black and White Stripe. If you are not quite ready to wear a lot of colour, introducing a bold colour to the wardrobe to begin with is a good start and especially easy with our O-Belt which is great for controlling the volume of a lot of our taylor pieces.
