Kourbela – Summer 2010
A highly inspirational and artistic label from Athens, Greece by designer Ioanna Kourbela. The designer likes to be thought of as an artist. She studied fashion as well as costume and stage design, which makes her label a fusion of raw materials, elaborate and luxurious textures, natural flow and a hint of the theatrical. This season Kourbela has am amazing new Ribbed knit structure that allows for neutrals to mix with brights and a whole translucent appearance to her knitwear.
Spring/Summer 2010 collection is about Sea Goddess meeting Earth Siren.
Sea Goddess brings on soft colour hues of seafoam and lilac snow and contrasts it with textured cotton knits… whispering summer in the Mediterranean.
Earth Siren gets tough with deep fire reds and purples against smooth, silk textures giving garments an extra urban edge.
The designer, Ioanna Kourbela works yarn and fabric like an artist. Pushing the boundaries of technology and design to its maximum.
You will want to see, touch and try on these amazing garments.
In store from the end of July.
Kourbela Ioanna is made with love in Athens by her family’s original handmade knitwear company established in 1972

Thought you’d seen every shoe in the book?
Well here are a few delights to keep you guessing!!

Dsquared’s strappy bandage sandal & ankle bootie
Another interesting, sculptural pair of Finsk shoes by Julia Lyndsen
Fullness does not= Frumpy
If you have ever been under the illusion that you cannot wear drapey clothing because they make you look bigger than you are or they swap your petite frame……well the trick to the new age of layering, fullness and cocoon like shapes is maintaining balance.
As long as you achieve a harmonious balance between fullness & figure hugging you are can conquer anything from statement trousers to chunky billowing knitted cardigans & capes.
Ideally you want to aim for this equation:
Fullness to disguise your problem areas+ Figure hugging to accentuate your best assets= FABULOUS
If you look in the mirror & feel like a box or as though you have placed a shapeless sack over your body..try a few of these ideas and see if it helps
1. Opt for sheer lightweight tunic layers in delicate fabrics which drape well, teamed with skinny under layers…..this works in your favour as it subtly shows a slim line silhouette through the shape of the tunic without being too revealing or clingy.
2. Belt it in the waist area, on the hips or cinch it in with a waistcoat or jacket. The idea is to bring the drape of the garment back onto the body in the smallest area/ one of the smallest areas to accentuate & draw attention to it.
3. Keep your under layers fitted & fine. Ensure they are creating no bulk & contrasting the fuller garment with the slimmest possible sleeves or legs peeking through.
Statement Pants:
1. Keep the top more fitted and basic, to balance the fullness & not compete with the already detailed trouser.
2. Adjust your trousers at the calf area to fit the shape of your leg like a glove, showing that you are in fact skinny under all of that volume. This is part of the balancing act & will mean your pants will be more flattering visually.
