The Essential Winter Dress - Divert Dress

posted 2013 May by Vicki Taylor

As much as we love lightweight, loose summer dresses, there is something chic yet snuggly about their cold weather counterparts.... This week our essential pick of winter dresses has to be The Divert Dress.

The Divert Dress in soft, washable, New Zealand merino knitted-wool deserves a second look with its clean and striking panelled stripe.

Just add opaque winter tights anda pair of Madge Ankle Boots. Then finish the look off with a soft Merino long-line cardi coat like The Boundary Cardi, or an essential winter coat like our Graphite Enclosure Coat. Each piece allowing this dress to go from work to play - any day of the week.

Tutto Rosso

So hot and bold, red is one of our favourite colours for this season. It increases the temperature of any outfit by breaking the darkness of winter blacks and greys.

If you love red (just like us!) you won’t resist our beautiful red pieces: the Evangile Tunic, the Traced Tunic and the Linear Dress.

However, if you are looking for a trendy but slightly more discreet look, accessories and makeup can be a great alternative. The Linear Belt, the Filament Necklace and the Cherry Pie Nail Polish by Kester Black are great options for the women who wants to add a bit of colour to her chic, monochrome outfits.

THE HIT LIST - This season's best sellers now back in stock!

posted 2013 May by Charlene Ho

Stuck for winter inspiration?

Find out what has been so popular this season. We have a few of our best sellers re-cut and now back in stock...

1. Ensemble Shirt and Composite Vest - Great worn as an outfit with slim pants, but also great pieces to wear separately too. Composite Vest is flattering as it appears to add length to your body as well as giving you a tailored shoulder line without the formality of a full tailored jacket. Try paired with our soft silk shirts as well as with our classic cottons.

Ensemble Shirt is an easy classic. Try pairing with our faded-out denim and flat Converse sneakers for an easy weekend look.

2.Gradient Top - Made from 100% Merino will surely keep you warm and stylish throughout the height of winter. Layer up or wear simply with your favourite skinny pants and boots, underneath a great jacket or coat. It will be a go-to look for sure. Also available in black with graphite, it will be hard to decide on just one!

3. Flote Shirt - An old favourite of ours is back with a vengeance! Have in your wardrobe to replace the white one from seasons ago or keep as an alternative. Looks best with skinny pants, but also try with our slim fit Foundation Skirt, cinched in at the waist with a belt.

4. Short Outline Sweater - These raced out the door at the beginning of the season so be sure not to miss out this time around. We are loving the dark petrol colour styled with tonal greys or black. The perfect in-between colour for those that want to stay away from black this season but not brave enough to stray too far from it either!

5. Wool Cogent Pants - Perfect for work or play, a comfortable and flattering slim leg in fine-wool. A suiting you can wear all year around. Looks great with loose, silky tunic shapes, as well as with fitted styles. Wear as a full suit or mix and match each piece as you choose.

Come in and see us soon! We can help you style these favourite pieces into some fresh winter looks for you.

DIALECT AW13

posted 2013 May by Ngaire Wills

At taylor, as some of you will know, we love to support new up and coming talent from New Zealand...

Our talented Julia Campbell graduated from Design School with much acclaim and is currently working as one of our in-store stylists and in our workroom.

We are now thrilled to announce that Julia has launched her very own label, Dialect, which we are very excited to present in our Britomart store from Thursday 16th - Monday 20th May.

Julia gives some insight to her debut Autumn/Winter 2013 collection:

"The collection 'Say One Thing, Mean Another' explores what it means to be an outsider. I have also tried to express the rugged individualism that I believe is within all of us. My design sensibilities are best described as bold yet minimal with an importance placed on detail and finish."

We hope to see you all at our Britomart store on Thursday 16th May from 6pm to celebrate Dialect's arrival at taylor boutique.

Round the clock style - Looks to take you through the day and night...

Nothing worse than a brand new item of clothing and forever waiting for an "excuse" to wear it. Allow us inspire you to incorporate some of our favourite winter pieces into everyday looks - day or night...

Featured above: Linear Dress in Shadow

Traced Tunic in Petrol

Inclined Dress

Evangile Tunic

Interchange Jacket

Linear Dress (Available in Shadow, Petrol, and Poppy colour ways)

An exciting and cleverly panelled silk dress with that wow-factor...

For daytime: Wear with thick opaque tights or skinny pants and a slip (and a long-sleeved basic merino or our essential Camber Tunic if you need the extra warmth) and flat boots to add an edge.

For evening: Amp it up with some heeled (but comfortable) Peeptoe ankle boots and opaque tights or bare legs. You will no doubt turn a few heads!

A long line silk tank with tape detailing to give your layering depth and dimension.

For daytime: Wear tucked into slightly looser fit trousers like the Garner Pants or Placement Pants - a feminine take on the slight man-style look around the office. More modern than a blouse and much more flattering. Finish with simple accessories like a Filament Neckpiece, a long-line necklace or a Linear Belt.

For evening: A go-to combination look which you can wear out for many occasions - the skinny pants and silky layers. Wear the Traced Tunic layered with a contrasting Trailed Shift over the ever popular Integral Pants or Outcome Pants. All great separates which can be broken down into different outfits as well. Finish off with a Heeled Sandal or Boot.

An understated dress which looks even more beautiful on the body. So elegant and simple, it will live in your wardrobe seasons to come.

For daytime: Be careful not to take away the simplistic beauty of this wonderful dress. Easily dress down with a fitted long sleeve t-shirt underneath such as our Camber Tunic and wear with a flat boot.

For evening: Layer under a classic style coat like the Enclosure Coat when wearing out in the evening. Wear with a Silk Mesh Camber Tunic in Black if you would like to keep the arms covered.

Evangile Tunic (Available in Graphite, Rosso and Poppy)

A v-neck silk shift that's nice enough to wear to parties or events but not too nice to wear everyday.

For daytime: Let this piece be a chameleon for your wardrobe. Wear layered with a long sleeve underneath to give warmth, then accessorize with a printed silk scarf and a cute winter jacket like the Convex Jacket and winter boots.

For evening: Wear simply with a slip and opaque tights or skinny Outcome Pants. The style and simplicity of this dress can sustain a great piece of statement jewellery, so don't be afraid to do so if you feel the occasion calls for it.

Interchange Jacket (Available in Marine, Rosso, and Black)

A sheer and draped style of jacket that can be worn many ways depending on your mood and the occasion.

For daytime: An interesting piece to wear layered under fitted jacket shapes and over top of slim pencil skirts or slim pants. Quickly take this look from day to night with a simple change of shoe and a flash of lippy. Perfect for last minute dinner plans or a quick drink after work.

For evening: Tie up and wear this jacket more as a tunic style. Try layered over the Camber Singlet or Trailed Shift or the Traced Tunic for a dressier alternative to the plain slip.

Winter Checklist - What you need now...

posted 2013 Apr by Charlene Ho

So many exciting things just landing in store, and now that the weather up and down the country is starting to feel even more wintery, we cannot think of a better time than now to shop those winter essentials...

Instinct Anorak

Made from 100% Merino, this Anorak is heavy enough to wear as an alternative to a jacket yet light enough to wear when it's not quite cold enough to wear a coat. It looks great zipped up and cinched in tight but can also be worn open and worn loose.

Coordinate Hoodie

Such a fun little casual piece. Made from the softest and cosiest Merino wool, it will be your new weekend favourite. Throw on with jeans and a pair of flat boots, so easy!

Convex Jacket

We love coats! But sometimes a big long coat is not always what you need. Our Convex Jacket is short and simple and so timeless. With a slight swing shape and striking colour options, there is just so much to love about this little jacket.

Channel Tunic

Easy to wear simply with thick opaque tights and a slip or with your favourite skinny pants. An interesting Merino dress to wear for work during the day, and then easy to wear worn dressed up out for dinner or drinks.

Extent Top

A basic with a twist, and available in a range of colours, Black, Ivory, Graphite or Ink. The Extent Top will be perfect to wear under jackets for work, or underneath those loose drapey knits if you need a bit more warmth.

Validate Coat - Check

Part cape, part coat, and part raincoat, our Validate Coat is like three in one! This jacket is so unique in design and so practical to wear too. You will find it difficult to leave home without it in the midst of winter.

Click here to shop these online, otherwise we hope to see you in store soon!

For Rainy Days

posted 2013 Apr by Bruna Pastuk

Summer has definitely gone.. The chilly weather is shouting it is time for long sleeves and a lot of merino. But what about the rain? Getting wet and cold is what you don’t want during winter. This season we have some amazing water resistant outerwear that will keep you dry and stylish.

The Insulate Vest is our modern and sophisticated version of the traditional puff vest. It complements any look, whether you are wearing a merino top or a silk tunic.

Like versatility? Then our Situation Jacket is for you. Fully reversible with 2 colour options: black and pebble or schist. By detaching the sleeves from the armhole metal zips you can transform the jacket into a vest. One piece that can be worn in 4 different ways!

Finally, if you love the Validate Coat you will be glad to hear that the reversible side can also save you on a rainy day. Perfect for weather surprises!

Autumn MUST HAVE - The Shirt

posted 2013 Apr by Charlene Ho

We all at taylor love shirts...we love the versatility of the different styles and you can pretty much wear a stylish shirt anywhere... be it for work, on the weekend casually or dressed up as a tuxedo look with a classic blazer.

Whether you enjoy a beautiful sheer silk chiffon shirt or a crisp white cotton, or something in between the two... we have the shirt for you this season...

Our Manipulate Shirt is a striking monochrome in Ivory and Black (or Black with Ivory) and a smart piece to wear layered or simply over skinny pants and a slip. One of our key pieces in our winter collection.

Our Flote Shirt has been reinvented this season and is sure to be a favourite once again... this time around we have this style available in our Diamond print Cotton or in our light cotton Voile in the Granite colour-way. Beautiful to wear on its own but you can also wear with a waist cinching belt to if you feel you want to control the fullness and define your shape.

The Ensemble Shirt is also proving to be a popular style this season too. There is just something so classic about a crisp Japanese cotton shirt. We just love the clever little details too which are unique taylor additions in this classic style. We also love this look paired with a vest shape or a sharply tailored jacket as well.
