Aesther Ekme was founded in Copenhagen by Stephanie Park in 2016. Her focus was on purified and sculptural aesthetics and surrounded the idea of ‘functional beauty’ which she has seamlessly carried through each collection. Stephanie Park has utilised Aesther Ekme to push the boundaries of classic shapes to achieve a balance between lightness and strength, purpose and sensibility.

Stephanie Park described that she never set out to create an “it bag”’. Her design ethos is based on the belief that a bag shouldn’t overshadow a personal style, it should instead blend in seamlessly. The bag on its own should be seamless. Park is based between Copenhagen and Paris and she finds these cities are great aesthetic descriptors for her work which is high-quality, classic, functional, and architectural.

Stephanie explained that a lot of her inspiration comes from streets, metro-stations and airports. Airports are where you see people from all over the world interacting with their bags in different ways. She finds it interesting to see how people carry, organise their things and run with their bags.

Being ethically produced parallels the seasonality of the bags being incidental as the designs are timeless. Aesther Ekme bags are luxurious, ageless and modern. The leather is a smooth calfskin that is from Italy and tanned and finished in Turkey, in the same factory the bags are produced. It’s through this method that they are able to have more control over the quality of the skins before manufacturing the actual products.
