The Abstract Paint Print
Posted:
A study in colour, texture and collaboration.
Each season, Creative Director Vicki Taylor collaborates with New Zealand artist Rebekah Farr to create an original artwork that becomes the foundation of the collection. The resulting print is more than a seasonal expression - it becomes a collector's piece, translating the ideas behind the collection into a work of wearable art.
Often drawing from the colours and concepts of the season, these artworks begin on canvas and paper, before being reinterpreted onto silk. Over time, they have formed a quiet archive within the brand - limited edition prints that mark the evolution of taylor.
For the Lacuna Winter 2026, the collaboration explores the idea of the space between two entities. Lacuna — meaning a gap or void — becomes an invitation to consider contrast: the soft against the hard, brightness against shadow, and the tension that exists in the spaces between.
The Abstract Paint Print emerges from this exploration of texture and movement. Broad, expressive strokes of colour sweep across the surface, layered gradually until the marks settle into a single composition. The result feels both spontaneous and intentional — painterly gestures that echo the push and pull of the collection’s themes.
Translated from canvas to silk, the artwork carries with it the depth of the original painting while allowing the print to move fluidly with the body.
A Collaboration in Craft: Dancing Water Wines
The release of the Abstract Paint Print also marks a special collaboration with Dancing Water Wines, bringing together two New Zealand makers through a shared appreciation of craft.
Designer Vicki Taylor and Kim Schofield, owner of Dancing Water Winery, first connected through a mutual admiration for each other’s work. Discovering that both brands had independently developed their own art series, the collaboration felt like a natural extension of that creative alignment.
The partnership came to life through a limited release taylor-labelled 2021 Pinot Noir, inspired by the same artwork that forms the Abstract Paint Print. The expressive brushwork and layered tones of the print echo the depth and complexity of the wine itself.

Estate-grown on the Dancing Water vineyard in North Canterbury, this Pinot Noir offers aromas of black cherry and plum, supported by subtle oak. The wine is crafted from a single parcel of vines planted in the 1980s — old vines that are dry-grown on their own roots, producing fruit of remarkable character and finesse.
Hand-picked and carefully sorted, the 2021 Pinot Noir is both elegant and structured. It is drinking beautifully now, yet has the potential to continue developing in the cellar for the next decade.
Only 300 bottles of the limited release taylor 2021 Pinot Noir have been produced — a meeting of two New Zealand makers celebrating creativity, craftsmanship, and the layering of art across different mediums.
